A Wedding Singer’s Diary: 7 Legal Wedding Facts!
I know as a Wedding Singer and Party Singer that so much goes into planning the perfect Wedding and I perform all across Essex, London, Kent and the UK and see the blood, sweat and tears that has made their Wedding possible. But here are some legal facts that will apply to virtually all Weddings in some capacity – Wedding Singer’s Diary: 7 Legal Wedding Facts!’
Legal Fact 1: For Church of England (& Wales) Ceremonies you are not legally required to give notice of your Marriage to your Registrar Office as it is automatically done at the same time of your ceremony.
Legal Fact 2: Civil Ceremonies require both parties to give notice to their registrar office at least 28 days prior to the Wedding, regardless to whether or not you are marrying in that district.
Legal Fact 3: Other Religious Ceremonies will also require at least 28 days notice of the marriage to your Registrar Office.
Legal Fact 4: Same Sex Couples are now legally allowed to Wed in England, Scotland and Wales (except in the C of E or Church in Wales & only Civil partnership in N.Ireland).
Legal Fact 5: In England and Wales Local Authorities can approve premises (other than Registrar Offices). Applications have to be made by either the Building’s owner or Trustee, they cannot be made by the Couple to be Wed. In Scotland you’re also allowed to Marry Outdoors.
Legal Fact 6: If you want to ensure that your marriage abroad is legal, then you must follow the law and procedure of the country you are marrying in (see marryabroad.co.uk for more information).
Legal Fact 7: You are legally allowed to change your name on your Passport up to 3 months prior to your Wedding Ceremony, but it sill be ‘post-dated’ so you cannot use it before the Wedding.
